How Psychologists Define, Treat, and View Racism • FIRST Inclusive Education Hour

The term racism is often used synonymously with individual bias, prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination. However, this approach to thinking about racism can minimize the particular role race, as a historical and cultural construct, has played in organizing which persons and identities recurrently comprise marginalized outgroups. In this talk, Dr. Phia Salter (PSY) will discuss different approaches to racism in psychology and the implications of focusing on biases among individuals versus racism embedded in systems.
