Mathematical Models in the Sociological Imagination • Public Lecture

February 25, 2020 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Dr. Nathan Alexander of Morehouse College’s Math Department presents an abstract study of mathematical and statistical modeling using methods from mathematical sociology that are rooted in the sociological imagination (Mills, 2000).  The sociological imagination allows us to see how social systems interact and influence each other so that we might develop community-centered interpretations of mathematical models.  In this workshop, we discuss and engage models of neighborhood composition, land ownership, and gentrification using mathematics.  This talk is “math friendly” and open to all faculty and staff members regardless of mathematical background.

Co-sponsored by FIRST, Center for Teaching & Learning, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics & Computer Science, Physics, Psychology, Sociology, & Pre-Medical & Allied Health Professions.
