Decolonize? Land Recognition Statement?: Best Practices in Indigenous Studies for Davidson • FIRST Inclusive Education Presentation​

Davidson College students, faculty, and staff are increasingly aware of the presence/absence of Indigenous people in the academy and concerns specifically related to Indigenous communities. In this presentation, Dr. Rose Stremlau will do the following: 1) define terms including American Indian, Native American, and Indigenous and explain which she uses in the classroom and why; 2) explain decolonization and strategies for including Indigenous content in our classes; 3) discuss the history of land recognition statements and why you may/may not want to include one; 4) provide direction to sources on the Indigenous history of this region that provide context for our work as faculty and staff.
