Faculty deadline to apply for FIRST MILE: More Inclusive Learning Environments

FIRST Action Team students recommended a new faculty development program in partnership with FIRST and the CTL modeled after the successful SaLT program at Bryn Mawr.  Davidson’s adaptation, MILE: More Inclusive Learning Environments, is being piloted in PHY125 in Fall 2019.  The MILE pilot will expand to four Spring 2020 NS&M courses.

FIRST is actively recruiting NS&M faculty member volunteers with interest in participating in MILE in Spring 2020.

In brief, MILE is a fully voluntary and non-evaluative semester-long partnership that occurs between a faculty member and a student who is not enrolled in the course yet attends class/lab regularly.  The pair meet weekly to discuss student experiences in the course with the shared goal of improving the learning environment for current and/or future students.  Importantly, MILE is a professional development opportunity shared between two partners who are each committed to improving STEM at Davidson.  MILE is not an evaluative situation.  See this link for additional information on MILE expectations, stipend, structure, application, and schedule.
