STEM Education Social Hour – November
November 1, 2018 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
One of the goals of FIRST is to expand faculty member understandings of the factors necessary for success for all students and increase diversity, equity, and inclusivity efforts on campus. One step is establish a learning community amongst faculty and staff focusing on STEM teaching and learning. Consequently, all interested faculty and staff members are invited to the inaugural FIRST STEM Education Social Hour on the first Thursday of November. CFD Fellow Dr. Sabriya N. Rosemond will describe her previous work redesigning a gateway chemistry course at UC Berkeley to engage students in chemical practices and rich chemical thinking, disrupt traditional views of scientific competence, and support psychosocial factors known to be important for student persistence.
